We have a three stage plan at BBC that will help move us toward the possibility of relaunching a modified form of public worship in the building by mid September, 2020. Here are the steps we are taking.
From July to mid-August, we are preparing the building, developing protocols, installing our new live-streaming equipment and training a special tech team and greeting team so that we are prepared to welcome a limited number of people back to the building for worship. We are following the Alberta relaunch guidelines for places of worship, engaging in conversations with other churches and praying. Lots of praying! During this time, some small groups, committees and workers will be in the building and will follow all the guidelines in place.
From mid-July to mid-August, we plan to invite a specific and limited number of people to attend public worship on Sunday to help us test our systems and refine the procedures. This is not the time for general attendance on Sunday. This test group will allow us to see whether or not we have the capacity, and desire, to meet for worship while following the restrictions that are in place. During this time, our YouTube worship will continue without interruption so that no one will miss out on the Sunday worship, prayer and teaching.
By mid-September, we hope to hold public worship services in the building on Sundays. This will not be a return to the ways things were before the restrictions due to Covid-19. We anticipate a limited capacity for attendance and other restrictions to still be in place. We will know closer to the time the answers to questions like: will we have Sunday School? How many can come to worship at one time? Will we have two or three services? Can we sing together? Will we have to wear masks? I ask for your patience and prayers as we pay attention to the developing situation and respond appropriately.
Of course, all this is really dependent on Covid-19 case numbers and government regulations. As we watch and pray, we will continue to move forward with the hope that Sunday public worship will again be a reality at BBC in the near future. As we move through these stages, our commitment to invite, encourage and equip people to be fully devoted followers of Jesus will continue. We will also continue to produce worship services on YouTube and find creative and faithful ways to stay connected and serve the community in the name of Jesus.
Thanks for your partnership in the gospel!
